Fidyah is applicable for individuals who are unable to fast during Ramadan due to valid reasons, such as chronic illness or advanced age, and cannot make up the missed fasts later. In Singapore, the current fidyah amount is approximately SGD 5 per missed day of fasting, calculated based on the cost of feeding one person two meals for a day.
For example:
If you missed 5 days of fasting, the total fidyah would be SGD 25 (5 days x 5 SGD).
Fidyah for Missed Fasts (On Behalf of Arwah - Deceased)
If an Arwah was unable to fast due to illness, old age, or other valid reasons and has since passed away, fidyah must be given on their behalf to fulfill their religious obligations. This ensures that their missed fasts are compensated, and we pray that Allah (SWT) grants them forgiveness and mercy.
According to Islamic teachings, fidyah is required for all the days the Arwah may have missed, including any uncertain days. If the exact number of missed fasts is unknown, it is recommended to estimate conservatively to ensure the obligation is fully covered.
Example Fidyah Calculation:
Estimated fasting debt from age 50 to 80
30 years × 30 days per year = 900 days
1 fidyah = 5 SGD per day
Total fidyah: 900 days × 5 SGD = 4,500 SGD
Your fidyah supports providing meals and sustenance to vulnerable individuals and families, reflecting the spirit of compassion and care during Ramadan.
